Schatzi come out of left field and hit us with a slab of superbly catchy power-pop that is so infectious that repeated listens are not only required but also mandatory. This Austin, TX band has won a deal with powerhouse Mammoth Records and has just released their debut EP, Death of the Alphabet. With the power and hooks that are on here, we can expect a totally fulfilling debut album once it’s finished. The title track is one of the catchiest of the 7 songs on here but the rest of the tracks are definitely not just filler. Take “Sucked Into Something� into consideration. Schatzi show that they have fellow Texans, Superdrag as mentors. Hooks and melodies abound on Death, whether they are full on rockers like the title track or a laid back track like “Song For Stephanie�, which oozes with sweetness. Schatzi have a bright future ahead of them and this is only a sweet taste of what’s to come.
