While Groove Armada may trigger a refrain of “I see you baby / shaking that ass rest assured that this collective is not just a one trick pony. If you actually ventured out and bought Vertigo, Groove Armada’s debut, then you already know how talented Andy Cato and Tom Findlay really are. Goodbye Country (Hellos Nightclub) is no exception. They keep plugging away and broadening their horizons on the way. There are even funkier and smoother beats and grooves here along with a semi-ambient flavor. They also manage to inject their already trademarked down-tempo styles. They employ hip-hop artists as well on Goodbye Country with the likes of Jeru the Damaja, M.A.D., MG, and Kriminul. And along the lines of Bran Van 3000’s use of old stars they resurrect Richie Havens for a track. There are some cool dreamy string sections on the album. In the end, Groove Armada proves that Vertigo wasn’t just a fluke. These boys know what their doing and they are prepared to do almost anything in the way of fun.
