OK - so I am halfway between a Jack Daniels hangover and the taxman bitching about last years work efforts yielding nothing but back taxes and a broken heart and can you believe it, its only Tuesday!!
I open my email and low and behold a new band hits me like a band-Aid being ripped off my hairy legs. Holy mother of monkeys, rock music is still alive in the city of Los Angeles!! Now I am not talking about cookie monster screaming ( which I do like ) or a retro hairband throwback to the 80's (which I kinda like cuz its funny) , I am talking about beer drinking stripper swinging, fast car racing - ROCK BAND!! Case in point Caveman Voicebox's first effort Strippers Mullets & Beer on Faceslapper Records giving the nod to Foo Fighters, Kyuss and Fu Manchu while creating its own unique spin on stoner rock.
Vocalist / bassist GW, ringleader of the assault, keeps band moving North with his own melodic drill sergeant approach, balancing just enough belt and howl to impress the MC5. Musically its a no-brainer, its fun, its loud and its heavy without pushing too far into the world of sludge and the point of no return. Standout track is 72 Nova, a Texas Boogie barn burner with slide guitars played by Eric Dover ( Slash's Snakepit / Alice Cooper ) in the direction of ZZ Top circa 75!!
Produced by Doug Carrion, Strippers Mullets and Beer is by far the most interesting, and refreshing independent rock project I've heard in 10 years and sure to win over rocker fans by the dozen!
