Screaming Trees kind of got the raw end of the grunge deal. Sweet Oblivion was released just before the Seattle phenomenon broke and they didn't release their next album, Dust, for another four years. In the history books, Screaming Trees may be forgotten about but Sweet Oblivion is an album that deserves to be remembered. They had the track "Nearly Lost You" featured on the Singles soundtrack with other formidable Seattle bands. Mark Lanegan's vocals really make the band, which would explain his success as a solo artist. With tracks like "Dollar Bill" and "Butterfly" highlighting the albums strong tracks, you start to realize just what sort of chemistry the band had. As opposed to the other Seattle bands at the time, Screaming Trees focused on a more rootsy sound. As Mark treks forward with his solo career I'm sure he looks back with gratitude to what Screaming Trees gave him and all their fans.
