The Blacks are a Chicago-based Alt-country band that really know how to swing the barn dance. This is their second outing from Bloodshot and it is even more adventurous than their debut Dolly Horrorshow. Some times they get a bit trashy but restrain themselves from going to far off course. Gina Black's abilities on the stand up bass are amazing. And she has a beautiful voice too. Danny Black takes the band through a nice variety of original tracks as well as a great cover of Tom Waits' "Goin' Out West". The mixes elements of folk, country, punk, and blues together to come up with an X style pop sound. A bit spooky at times and at others they are totally carefree and fun loving. One of those albums that restores your faith in music that pushes the boundaries.
