Contemporaries of the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five never got the same recognition or lasting status of their merseybeat peers. In truth, this is as good, if not better, than most of the Beatles early singles. It has a thumping beat and a good call and response chorus, both of which combine to make it one of the catchier numbers of the era.
But the Beatles made it where the Dave Clark Five did not because, well a number of reasons. The main one is probably down to promotion. The Beatles tapped into a more comprehensive promotion machine and it paid off for them. It allowed them to hook into a fanatical fan base and stay there. But in truth, while the Beatles matured and developed, the Dave Clark Five faded away. I wonder how different it would have been if the situations had been reversed?
