In many ways this song typifies everything that was bad about the eighties. Gone are the guitars, instead there is a layered synthesiser effect providing lead, rhythm and bass guitars. Then add in lyrics which speak of faraway lands and exotic places in this case east Africa, with obligatory references to Mount Kilimanjaro thrown in. Hey presto! A radio hit!
Well, yes, but it is not as bad as that. The style may have become a cliche but this was probably the best of a rather mediocre bunch. Funny how Toto always excelled at standing just above the parapet marked average .
