Chickenfoot
Chickenfoot III
By M. Alberto Rivera

Chickenfoot seems to have a sense of humor about themselves; the name of their sophomore release being proof positive. This CD opens up with back to back mono-brow, chest thumping, knuckle dragging rockers that seem a little too dumb, from an experienced group of players who should know better.
This super group features the guitar wizardry of Joe Satriani, The Red Hot Chili Peppers Chad Smith rock steady on drums, and half of the last great Van Halen line up, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar. And its on the third track, Different Devil the band steps up its game and starts to resemble the artists weve known these many long years.
The rest of the disc displays the sort of fret board histrionics weve come to expect from Satriani, along with groove swollen tracks like Bigfoot, Dubai Blues, and Up Next. Chad Smiths subtle and occasionally over the top funk licks proves to be an interesting counter point for Satriani to build off of. The band seems to be paying homage to 70s era arena rock, with an emphasis on big, loud and sort of dumb. Theres plenty of energy here, but the band falls short on overly memorable material. But they seem to be enjoying themselves, so you may as well surrender to the moment, and jump in with them.
