Placebo's attempt to produce a "Lola" for the nineties comes close to being a huge success. Undoubtedly the best song from the band's output, they were treading dangerous territory in recording and even more dangerous territory in giving it that title. The song is less sympathetic than "Lola" but manages to portray what for many may seem like a hidden world as it is and in a completely non-judgemental way.
As usual, Placebo are able to bring a considerable amount of power to this song, especially noteworthy considering they are a three piece. And, also as usual, it is Brian Molko's distinctive, marmite voice (you either love it or you hate it) which provides the most musical issue of contention. I remain neutral on that discussion, but like the song for what it is.
