Might as well go for a Pussycat Trifecta. This album is was a complete dissapointment altogether. There are a couple of good songs. Taime Downes voice is still great, which is why I decided to review it. But they should have stuck to their roots. Greg Steele and Brent Muscat are much better blues guitarists than Pearl Jam imitators. There are some good tunes on this album, but those songs exist because Steele, Muscat and Downe went back to their roots and played that in your face blues rock and didn't spend their time trying to compete with Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Rhythm and blues is not grunge. As much as I totally love Pearl Jam, and as much as I admire Mike McCreedy, he has a very unique style and it's not something Steele and muscat sound good doing. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight boys. Stick to what you know. The body theif is a great song, but they guys were obviously trying to stick to their roots and keep from being drowned by the grunge movement.
Eric Stacy - bass guitarist, what can I say? He's the bloodline of this band. Even on this album, the guy doesn't stray from what he and Downes apparently were committed to.
Keep in mind, Faster Pussycat got a new drummer during this because they fired their former drummer mid-tour. I can see why, but to hire this grunge strictly 4/4 with a "lets get famous like pearl jam" attitude was a mistake. In fact, I'm pretty sure the reason I hate this album so much is because of him, because as I listen to it, I can just hear this guy going "c'mon guys, I wanna tour with Pearl Jam"....
I'll make this perfectly clear, I LOVE pearl jam. They're my favorite band, but I also LOVED faster pussycasts first and second album. This album, although it may have a few songs on it that stick with the original tone of the band, was a major dissapointment. They might as well just have become a stone temple pilots coverband. Something tells me the drummer took advantage of an opening and strongarmed the rest of the band, and in essence, ruined them.
It's albums like this that make me thankful that Jerry Cantrell has enough sense to hire singers that stick to what the band Alice in Chains set out to do. GNR fired Steven Adler, and hired the drummer from the cult, and put out 2 outstanding albums. So it's possible to do so. This album pretty much sucks though.
