This little EP almost slipped out of my reach without being heard. One of my policies at MusicEmissions.com is that every album will at least get a listen. No reviews guaranteed but when things sit in my pile for over a year sometimes you feel that a review is a bit in vain. Sharks and Minnows came into existence in 1999 when 3 friends got together to make some music. They had all been in bands whose paths had crossed in the past but never really played together. Shortly after their inception they found themselves opening for such acts as Alkaline Trio, Pinehurst Kids and Songs:Ohia. When it was finally time to enter the studio they enlisted Ed Rawls to record and mix and ended up with a raw and honest EP. They border on, and on occasion enter, power pop territory with most of the tracks. Sharks and Minnows are capable of many styles but their main music is heartfelt pop that pulls at your heartstrings or drives them into your head with their catchy riffs. I get shivers when I listen to “Crazy 8’s with the vocalist’s controlled falsetto. These five songs fortunately never escaped my grasp without being heard. I look forward to a full-length from this talented Atlanta Band.
