Rodney Crowell is one of those artists that has made a fortune out of other people covering his songs but still remains a non-star. It's very strange because he is a fantastic musician with a beautiful voice unlike other artists who have fortuned off of other artists performances. The Houston Kid comes of more as a confessional or autobiographical (Rodney was raised in East Houston) album than other albums he has done. After one listen you will realize the pure talent this fine musician possesses. Even one listen to his revisited Johnny Cash track "I Walk The Line" featuring Cash himself ("First time I heard Johnny Cash sing I walk the line"). Rodney Crowell has always been a little more suave than most of his contemporaries which may explain his underground status (he couldn't find a major label to release the Houston Kid). By far Crowell has outdone anything he has ever done before with Houston Kid. Listen to these tracks before they are made famous by someone covering them.
