Just occasionally, I encounter a band whose eventual obscurity is total and all-pervasive. Such it is with Friends of the Family. Internet searches have produced nothing, so you will perhaps forgive me if the accompanying resources to this are a little sparse. As far as I know "Rotten to the Core" was the sole single they released. Who they are, where they came from and what happened to them I simply do not know. Nor do I remember ever actually having this in my possession until recently.
So how do I describe this? A kind of dark jangle pop, denser than most, with female vocals. It is a hard song to listen to because even the hooks do not come to the fore as much as you feel they ought. And yet, there is something strangely compelling about it, something which requires further listens. Perhaps it is just as well Friends of the Family have left virtually no trace of their existence behind - it only adds to the appeal of this single.
