Paul Chastain and Rick Menck put themselves about a bit, musically that is. They formed the core of the Bag-o-Shells, whose single "Markers" is another jangle pop favourite of mine, and they also appeared in Velvet Crush and the Stupid Cupids. Their 1988 incarnation as the Springfields was one of the few American acts ever to sign for the legendary Sarah Records, although this was issued on the Bus Stop label in the States.
Melodic jangle pop is what this comprises. The two tracks on the B-Side, "Clown" and "Are We Gonna Be Alright?" are a bit weaker, but "Sunflower" is a gem. Forget the version which appeared on Rick Menck's solo album in 1996, this is "Sunflower" as it was meant to be.
