Before receiving this John Carlin album I had never heard of this singer/songwriter. It won’t be long before he starts making headlines with his very emotional and well written songs. His music has been described as Urban Blues, Indie Soul, Dark and Seductive Pop. Call it what you will but John Carlin is a very talented songwriter. His delivery is well thought out and the production on Songs From The Black House is very well done. Carlin comes by way of the Big Apple and used to play in a band called 700miles. They played loud and hard opening for Radiohead, PJ Harvey and other big bands. One night he just realized there was more to songwriting and playing than just screaming into a microphone. So he is now on his own. It’s a blessing because Songs is a great album and Carlin will appeal to a broad audience like Ben Harper fans and Martin Sexton groupies. John Carlin provides a brilliant solo debut. Watch for him touring in your area.
