Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound & image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".
Today I listened to the latest CD from New Jersey based Bill Kapac (Cross Country Serenade - 2011). Venturing to his website and reading his bio on the world wide web I get the impression he is one songwriter that is extremely passionate about his songwriting craft. From start to finish this Kapac and company delivers and is very pleasurable and entertaining. It has a very soothing Classic Rock, R&B quality to it and even dabbles in hooky Acoustic Pop. But make no bones about it - this latest release is vintage New Jersey Rock n' Roll. Any fans of any of these musical styles will enjoy this latest release from Clyde It's clearly marketed for those who like a male singer with a tongue and cheek mystique of say a Smithereens, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jeff Heally. I get the impression Kapac is just rolling with what he knows as a performer/songwriter/singer in all these songs. In other words he hits the mark remarkably well by just being who himself and letting it all hang out. Favorite tracks include (Six Gun Sally), (How Long Does Love Last) and the title track. The songwriting digs a bit deeper than the next Independent Artist. Within each one of these songs Kapac and company finds their soul and delivers the goods. His band is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable with hints on Saloon style blues guitar and a few notable solos that will make your head spin. The overall vibe of the production is very upbeat and extremely positive in nature.
The CD sound a bit amateurish to me. Kapac should overall his sound with a top flight production team. If he can upgrade his sound a few notches he would have himself a real winner.
In close Bill Kapac is a polished artist. Once again Im not so sure what "it" but I think it's safe to say Bill kapac has whatever "it" is.
