Another great name from a jangle pop band. Can't you just imagine the Andean women with their bowler hats, chewing coca leaves and getting on down to jangle pop? Who remembers Tony Hadley, the smooth sounding, snappily dressed lead singer from Spandau Ballet? Well, he was something of an icon in the mid eighties new romantics scene. Welsh outfit, the Peruvian Hipsters released this tribute, if you can call it that. Well, after all, if you could be Tony Hadley think of all the girls who would throw themselves at your feet. No doubt this was the real reason why the band would wish to be Tony Hadley because, by the time this was released, Spandau Ballet had become a Michael Buble-esque parody!
A bright and snappy jangle pop song, Tony Hadley was the sole release from the band. I have no other information about them and no idea of the label this was issued on or the cover art. But it is so insanely catchy I defy you not to sing along to this if you hear it, especially the chorus, with its catchy almost chant and response almost daring you to join in. It has been rattling around my head, and greeting me when I wake up for days now.
