Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice voice, or even a very marketable look, sound and image. There's something truly infectious at the core of these artists that simply makes us feel good when we listen to them. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".
Today I listened to the second CD from Doug Prescott (The Journey and the Deep Blue Sea) - 2011. Venturing to the world wide web, his website and after reading his bio I get the impression this is one songwriter that is simply having a lot of fun. From start to finish this CD from Prescott and company is very inviting and entertaining musical statement. It has a very soothing Classic Rock, R&B quality to it and even dabbles in Rock n Roll that was popular in the 70's. Any fans of any of these musical styles will enjoy this latest release from Prescott and is clearly marketed for those who like a male singer comparable to a Dr. John, Randy Newman, John Prine and even a splash of Jimmy Buffett. I get the impression Prescott is just rolling with what he knows as a performer/songwriter/singer in all these songs. In other words he hits the mark remarkably well by just being who himself. Favorite tracks include (Happy Enough Song), (Right Time - Right Place) and (Hideaway). All songs possess amazing feel and vivid personality. The songwriting digs a bit deeper than the next Independent Artist. Within each one of these songs Prescott and company find their soul and deliver the goods. His band is spot on and just makes the whole CD even more enjoyable. The overall vibe of the production is very upbeat and extremely clever with satirical tongue and cheek humor thus holding little back.
In close Doug Prescott's latest release entailed "The Journey and the Deep Blue Sea" is like lighting in a bottle.. Once again I'm not so sure what "it" but I think it's safe to say Doug Prescott has whatever "it" is.
