Most would agree most popular artists out there have something truly special to give to their fans. This goes above the typical attributes like raw talent, amazing songs, nice vocal presence, or even a very marketable look, sound & image. There's something truly infectious at the core of some of these artists. This X-Factor component simply makes us feel good whenever we listen to these artists. Whatever "it" is - they all seem to have "it".

Today I listened to the latest CD from New York 4 piece Monks of Mellonwah (Stars are Out - 2011). Venturing to the world wide web and to their website I get the impression these lads from Down under take their songwriting craft pretty seriously. From start to finish this 5 song EP sampler delivers the goods and is very entertaining. It has a very strong rock-heavy quality to it and even dabbles in punk and rock popular in the 90's. That's quite allot of musical latitude to cover. Any fans of any of these musical styles will enjoy this latest release from Monks of Mellonwah. It's clearly marketed for those who like the musical mystique of say a Green Day, Hinder and Finger Eleven. I get the impression Monks of Mellonwah are having aloot of fun with it as performers and songwriters. Favorite tracks include Track 1 (FIRE IN THE HOLEf) and Track 2 (AWAMP GROOVE). The CD has an amazing feel to it and is very melodic. Within each one of these compositions the group finds their musical mojo snd just put it out there. The playing feels a bit loose at times and the CD is not what I would call groundbreaking a few rough edges here and there. However despite these flaws there is a sprit that is captured within each one of these recordings comparable to capturing lightning in a bottle. The overall vibe is full tilt.

I see Monks of Mellonwah as a strong contender, with an amazing amount of potential. As time goes by these cats will no doubt refine their sound somewhat. Case in point the Red Hot Chilli Peppers had to start somewhere right? As time goes by I am eager to hear what the full length release will sound like. This 4 piece has proven they are committed to their cause and they fit together like a hand in glove.

In close most famous artists out there have "it" I'm not so sure what it but Monks of Mellonwah has whatever "it" may be. Keep em' coming guys!
