According to 86 their style of music is Jug Rock. If I were to describe what I thought jug rock it would come pretty close to what I think No Depression is: down home roots rock that is easily accessible; Rock with a touch of country; roots rock; Rock n Roll complete with all the dirt. They describe it as the Byrds mixed with CCR and the Velvets with a banjo added. It is the banjo that adds the originality of the band, not to mention great songwriting. They have a great sense of humor too with tracks like "Unidentified Fiddling Object" and "Singin' Drunk". There are times when the band reminds me of older groups such as CSN&Y. This San Francisco band has played with the stellar Red Meat and also have been seen at North By Northwest. This is a great debut from an amazingly original band.
