I would not want to be in Jurassic 5’s shoes. They overwhelmed people with their debut album Quality Control and everyone instantly fell in love with J5, including this reviewer. With the boys dropping their new Power In Numbers, I can’t really say what I was expecting. They could have just pumped out Quality Control 2 but instead they reached into their bag of tricks and found some killer ideas. In no way would I say that Power In Numbers is any better than Quality Control. It’s just different but amazing at the same time. But we have come to expect that with this powerhouse of a hip hop group. It really has as much to do with Cut Chemist and Nu-Mark’s amazing samples as it does the rest of the groups super funky rhyming. Another thing they chose not to do was not to fill up an album with guest stars. J5 is different enough as a group that they don’t need the help of other rappers to diversify. The only guests that are on Power In Numbers is JuJu of the Beatnuts (“One of Them�), Kool Keith (“DDT�), Nelly Furtado (“Thin Line�), and Percy P and Big Daddy Kane (one of the album highlights “A Day At The Races�). Power In Numbers is a fine release showing that Jurassic 5 are in it for the long run. This is the kind of album that you let unbelievers listen to in order to turn them onto hip hop.
