GusGus - Attention
I have to admit that the new Gus Gus wasn’t a big have-to-hear album for this year. I have been a bit of a fan along the way but with the collective dwindling down to a regular 4 people I was thinking that they might be lacking. How much further could a group go than 1999’s This Is Normal or GusGus vs T-World? When I threw Attention on I was very impressed from the start. Attention requires just that but the exciting thing with this album is that it’s different. The group is going for more of a rave crowd (is that where all the money is?). The Icelandic group have raised my expectation for what to expect from electro-pop groups. The music is perfect for the rave scene but also very comfortable at home on your stereo. I don’t know if it’s the main factor in Attention’s succes but the group has aquired a new vocalist that goes by the name Earth (Urdur Hakonardottir). The beats are consistent with very interesting breaks. It seems that they may be a little more appreciated on Moonshine as opposed to 4AD.
