Jay Farrar’s last year release, Sebastopol, really shined and showed Jay for what he really is, a fantastic singer/songwriter. ThirdShiftGrottoSlack is basically just a companion piece to Sebastopol that is short and sweet. It clocks in a 5 songs and under 15 minutes but it’s actually worth the purchase. Tom Rothrock of Beck and RL Burnside fame is caught reworking the amazing “Damn Shame into a bit of a different character. The rest of the songs though are unreleased tracks. The highlight has to be the track “Kind of Madness where Farrar really turns on his american songwriting. Let’s hope more of the same is on it’s way.
