Let?s put aside for a few minutes that you either love or hate Courtney Love. Let?s think of what this chick singer has been through, raspy voice and all. Hole blows up as she self-destructs. The media attributes it to Kurt?s death, which probably just fuels her desire to prove herself, after-all she?s an artist, widow and now a single mom who is fucking up constantly because the pain is so bad and her addiction is exploding. The field day the media had with it is ridiculous.
That said, this album is every widow?s anthem. Sure her voice is raw and raspy, but so was Joan Jett?s, the media loves her because she loves rock n roll. For a while, Kurt was rock n roll, and she loved Kurt. This album proves that Courtney loved rock N roll, she just expressed it differently.
?Pretty faces grab the headlines, You leave me nothing but my name, And all the grief keeps multiplying, And I pretend to feel no pain? she says in the song uncool. Nobody wants to know the truth, they want to believe Courtney is a train wreck. They want to believe that she?s riding Kurt?s coat-tails.
She reveals the untold truth on this album, her side of the story, and did nothing more than use Nirvanas grungy style as a way to put it all together musically; inspiration, and every band has an inspiration. From the Pixies to Kiss, they were all inspired, that?s music, art, and poetry in motion, and Courtney isn?t putting up a front ?Three chords in your pocket tonight, Are you, you the one, With the spark to bring my punk rock back? And I don't think so?. I agree with her

This album is great because of it?s honesty, it?s beauty and the pain it portrays. It?s powerful, you can?t just have someone write what you?re feeling. Perhaps it was inspired by therapy, but from what I?ve read about Courtney, she was always a poet, always a writer, and always a lyricist. I can guarantee that if the same thing happened to someone like Henry Rollins or Jello Biafra and they took it out on the road and did a spoken word album about it, crowds would eat it up. They are icons, just like Kurt. Up to the point I thouht a lot of the music out there was "only 3 chords", however when you're going through as much pain as this album portrays, maybe all you need is 3 chords and a raspy voice.
Perhaps she was better than Kurt, she didn?t take the easy out.
