Psychadelia in the Teens. Now there's a different formula. Wasn't this 60s music, which evolved into 70s art rock? There have been comparisons to Todd Rundgeren.
They remind me of the late Beatles. Kevin Parker's vocals recall John Lennon. I wish there were more knockout tunes. The piano playing on "Apocalypse Dreams" elevate the song into the great category.
The vocals on "Be Above It" are memorable.
The guitar riff on "Mind Mischief" is catchy. The lyrics create a sense of dissolusion.
It's refreshing to listen to electronic music, which doesn't get in the way of traditional song structures, and just simple entertainment. Maybe the Rundgeren comparison makes the most sense after all. I've never been a big Rundgeren fan. This band does draw me in.
With all the techological emphasis, they have a back to nature appeal with the title "Music to Walk Home By," which has one of the more intriguing fadeouts I've heard.
Love the organ playing on "Why They Won't Talk to Me?" I like the way they don't settle for being just pleasant background noise. The album title doesn't point to pleasantry. The lyrics paint an in depth sketch on isolation. A little more joy or fun could be the next phase of the band's development. They should try focusing more on the laughter near the end of "Keep on Lying."
