Spyboy was the follow-up to the outstanding Wrecking Ball and now the time is upon us for yet another episode. Emmylou Harris let's loose with an equally enchanting album, Red Dirt Girl. She has a whole cast of guest players again including Buddy Miller, Dave Matthews, Julie Miller, Patty Griffin, Bruce Springsteen, Kate McGarrigle amongst others. This time out she chooses to go with Malcolm Burn for production instead of Daniel Lanois although the production seems very close to that of Wrecking Ball. Just as Gram Parsons found in Emmylou, Emmylou has discovered that Julie Miller is the perfect accompaniment to Harris' already beautiful voice. Listening to Emmylou always sends a chill down my spine and Malcom Burn's spooky production just lends to that feeling. She has created another masterpiece with these original tracks. Emmylou Harris albums don't come around as often as they should. Enjoy with the lights down low and very late at night.
