The Slip - Angels Come On Time
The Slip gives the slip to any categories that you could possibly throw them into, making their name very appropriate. Angels Come On Time is The Slip’s debut album for Rykodisc and a very eclectic affair as well. The three artists sat down in Phish’s studio barn to record the album and obviously got some influence from the location. The album starts off with the Bill Frisell sounding “Landing and then breaks right into “Get Me With Fuji, a track that could easily be a Medeski Martin and Wood track. Then on track 3, “Sometimes True To Nothing the recall a more Dave Matthews feel, being the first track with vocals. Angels Come On Time didn’t appeal to me immediately but upon a couple listens in the background I became a fan. The music will appeal to more than just the jam band fans of the above bands but to a jazz crew as well. The Slip is a totally diverse but very musically abled band that should get a following with this release.
