England had the Beatles, US had the Beach Boys, Canada has the Guess Who and Neil Young? Sloan is quickly working their way up to one of Canada's greatest exports. It's just too bad that people outside of our fine country aren't picking up on it. They had their grand chance with poorly supported Twice Removed, which was their Geffen debut. With that fiasco being almost 10 years behind them, Sloan is still putting out some of the best (if not THE best) power pop to ever surface. With the entire band taking turns at vocalist duties and each member a superb songwriter there really is no doubt that Sloan is a great pop band. Pretty Together kicks off with a killer rock track called "If it feels good do it", which seems to be their life philosophy. With the New Wave cover you would think that they are changing their tune. The mellower songs here a super catchy and I have caught myself singing them for a long time after I had finished listening to the album. They blend many great classic rock band styles like the Who and the Beatles to create their brand of power pop. Pretty Together shows Sloan growing and expanding with the times. They aren't afraid to try new things and with as many talented songwriters as they have, they do it quite well.
