Slowride demands to be heard and you can’t take no for an answer. While they know all that is good about pop rock, Slowride incorporates heavy and fast rhythms into something along the Jawbreaker line. And not since Jawbreaker has any band captured this sort of energy. Dan Phillips vocals are already seasoned and sound as if he has been doing this for years. His voice is husky but very melodic the way Dave Grohl does it. This makes for a surprising ride with all sorts of unexpected twists. They use the patented bass-line-only trick that the Pixies used so effectively in tracks like “Computer�. Rob Marchant is perfect for this thumping bass ride. Steve Visneau’s drumming fits the sound to perfection. And in disbelief I realize that Slowride is only a three-piece outfit. With the sonic penchant that comes out of the speaker on As I Survive the Suicide Bomber I grin and realize that Deep Elm may have delivered yet another favorite album. Slowride fires on all cylinders and doesn’t disappoint through the entire fast ride. Look no further for your catchy heavy rock.
