Heatstroke announces the signing of Gavin Hardkiss (aka Hawke) to San Francisco’s Six Degrees label. What a plan he has too. Depending on what mood your in, Heatstroke can be a pounding dance mix or just some groovy background music. If you feel like dancing you will but if you want to just lay back and read your favorite magazine (Gavin would recommend Muzik) then Heatstroke doesn’t impose itself. Hawke incorporates some very subtle and yet useful worldly beats and rhythms on Heatstroke and that is what drew Six Degrees, the world’s leading label for fusion music, to Gavin Hardkiss. On of the coolest fusion tracks on the album is “Le Le Lengwe�, which incorporates Afro-beat styles not unlike Femi Kuti would. The thing you will notice upon first listen to Hawke’s Heatstroke is the diversity that is apparent in every different track. This is an album that really lends itself to time and repeated listens. While Hawke may not lend himself to everyone that comes across his music, I can pretty much say with confidence that most will find some charming quality to adore.
