Jayhawks - Blue Earth
The Jayhawks sophomore album proved to be a solid improvement over their debut self titled album. Gary Louris and Mark Olson trade off lyrics effortlessly and the complimentary voice of the other is realized on Blue Earth. It was rumored that the Jayhawks ended up with their American recording contract from after producer George Drakoulias heard The Blue Earth playing in the background on a phone call. One listen to this album and you can see why. With catchy tracks like "Dead End Angel" and "Red Firecracker" you can tell that these guys never wanted to change anything in the music world. They just wanted to provide excellent tunes to listen too. This is as good as anywhere to try out the Jayhawks although most fans would say Hollywood Town Hall, their American debut.
