It has been a while since the last Matt Keating album, Killjoy. Tiltawhirl proves that it was well worth the wait. He ran into complications when his label Alias folded and was without a home. He found hope when a British label, Poptones picked up this album. Later, Future Farmer approached him on releasing his album in North America. It's about time. If you are unfamiliar with Keating then you should be ready for one of the most honest singer/songwriters to exist. His songs are heartfelt and his playing fits right alongside. Matt is one of those songwriters that it would be hard to imagine anyone else playing them. They fit him to a tee. The music is knee-deep in roots music but Matt is a guy that has no issues adding pop hooks to get the listener to stick around. Tiltawhirl is an album that really grows with each listen. His voice reminds me of a young Bruce Cockburn. Tiltawhirl will easily go down as another instant classic. Thanks Matt. Your contributions to music are greatly appreciated.
