I made the mistake of listening to Sonna on my truck stereo and it almost got lost before I actually had a listen through my headphones. Sonna is a mellow affair that is primarily instrumental. Steve Albini has produced the album (how does he find all the time). Sonna was formed in 1998 in Baltimore and has released a couple of sold out EP’s and singles to avid fans. The sound that Sonna crafts is soft and soothing. They meld the instruments noises gently and carefully to create a lush but sparse song. There are only 6 songs on We Sing Loud Sing Soft Tonight but they are an average of 7+ minutes so there is no lacking of material. The odd time Sonna will break out of their shell and have a random burst of energy but for the most part they remain calm. Learn from my mistake, when listening to this album you MUST listen to it on headphones. You end up losing too much otherwise.
