Chris Knight was another major label victim. He has been working on his style for years and finally decided to record his debut album with MCA. After finding no support from the label he took off and ended up on the new indie roots label Dualtone. A Pretty Good Guy demonstrates a fantastic songwriter with a rough and tumble voice that is similar to Steve Earle. His lyrics are superb too; you have to listen closely but he has plenty a story to tell. Chris has hired former Georgia Satellites member Dan Baird to produce his album. Chris isn’t all about country either. He injects some rock into a few of his songs but like Steve Earle, his songwriting shines on his mellower tracks like “Send a Boat. Chris states that the album tells a story and that every song was becoming a different character. Chris Knight isn’t the kind of artist that you would throw on at a party. He is more about that long drive back to your hometown. He is now making most of his money from big named country artists like Randy Travis covering his amazing songs. Discover Chris Knight’s charm in this album. It is one of those albums that you can keep coming back to time after time.
