BFK is an interesting 2012 end of the year offering from a new rapper in the game who uses the handle BennFranK. It features 9 radio friendly tracks (all about 3:30 in length and nothing to piss off the FCC) that are both rhythmic and introspective. Something Walmart could sell to any customer without having to worry about irate grandparents filing lawsuits after buying it for the grandkids.
What BFK may lack in edge, it more than makes up for in intelligence. While hip-hop that makes you think is not entirely new it is refreshing to listen to an entire CD that works more as a cohesive rap-opera than just a group of random songs strung together to fill an album. In fact, what BennFranK has achieved is a more literary-like approach to making a record because it succeeds in telling a rather expansive and autobiographical story.
BennFranKs story is one that I believe most of us can relate to. It begins by asking the question we all ask ourselves: who are we? From the moment were born until the day we day we die we ponder that mystery and come up with ever changing conclusions as they years move on by. He grapples with issues such as love, existence, mortality, satisfaction and faith. For him the end result is that all anyone can really do in life, if youre lucky, is to just keep it moving.
On a scale of 1-10 Id say the songs rate a 10, the performance a solid 9 and the production is a respectable 8. Theres room for improvement with the total package but BFK is an excellent beginning. Keep on grinding it BennFranK. From what Ive heard so far theres sure to be many, many diamonds to unearth in your musical mine.
BFK is released on Fuzion Records and at this time only available through digital retailers. I wish I could give you a list of show dates for BennFranK so we could check out if what he brings on stage is up to the level of what he lays down in the studio, but currently his promotion and marketing reps were unable to provide any upcoming tour info. Until they do all I can suggest is to keep checking him out on Facebook (facebook.com/bfkfuzion), his label (fuzionrecordsgroup.com) or his publicist (miamindmusic.com).
