Terrible Hostess takes Carolyn Mark and her friends into the studio for the first time. You may be thinking “but what about Party Girl?� If you will recall, Party Girl was a live affair that was recorded all across Canada at various dates. She has recorded with Neko Case as The Corn Sisters. Carolyn’s actual room-mates help her out on this album. Tolan McNeil and Garth Johnson are the culprits and they seem like perfect matches for her strong twangy voice. I find it amazing just how genuine her country music sounds. That’s not saying there isn’t good country music in Canada but when you stumble upon something this pleasant you start to wonder just what else is out there. Carolyn Mark is one of those artists who don’t do it for the money. It’s all about the music and friends and that’s what makes music like this stick out and there is no doubt that she will get her recognition shortly. Terrible Hostess is as fine a country album as money can buy.
