While the impressive Spoon’s follow-up to Girls Can Tell isn’t as immediate as that album, they have managed to change a bit while still maintaining their indie sense. Kill The Moonlight is a fine album with some super catchy riffs and lyrics on it (nothing quite as addictive as “Fitted Shirt). Try out the breathy “ah ah ah’s on the chugging “Stay Don’t Go or the fun and bouncy “You Gotta Feel It. Kill The Moonlight is not even close to a bad album but it’s the classic case of doing a near perfect album, how does one follow it up? (ie: Flaming Lips’ Soft Bulletin) Britt Daniel has one of the most unique voices in rock music today. The band plays music that is very original also. The music is quirky and yet extremely listenable, cross that out, infectious is a better descriptor for this music. They are also a band that had a flirt with a major label (Series of Sneaks was originally released on Elektra but recently re-released on their comfortable home label Merge.) While it’s becoming more and more common for bands to put out their best material after being dropped from a major label it’s rarer that they continue their success. Spoon is only bound to get more and more recognition with albums like Kill the Moonlight and Girls Can Tell.
