Starlet - Stay On My Side
Starlet have been refered to as the Mecca of Swedish wimp pop and it's not far off. If you need distorted guitars to get you going then you best be staying away from Starlet. The band has no problem singing along with an acoustic guitar with drums tapping out the rhythm with the odd keyboard thrown in for effect. Comparisons to Belle and Sebastian are inevitable as both the bands have mastered the wimp pop (affectionately known as Twee). You must remember that Starlet's Jonas Färm is singing in a foreign language too which adds even more amazement. The songs on Stay On My Side are about failed relationships and longing and loneliness which is par for the course with this type of music. An album for late at night just before you turn in.
