The Stratford 4 are back with a second helping of psychedelic swirling guitars. The guitars on Love & Distortion are even more spacey and dreamy than on The Revolt Against Tired Noises. The band seems to be coming into their own with more confidence and more complicated song structures. You can hear nods to the likes of My Bloody Valentine (the walls of fuzzy guitars) and Yo La Tengo (psychedelic songs structure). They also remind me a lot of the shoe-gazer movement. The Stratford 4 is a little more laid back than say Jesus and Mary Chain but the way their sound is similar. Lead vocalist Chris Streng’s voice has improved since the bands debut, proving that his is just as able as his peer who went on to form B.R.M.C.. I am predicting that Love & Distortion ends up on pretty much every college chart in North America. This San Francisco foursome has what it takes to gain a following. They’ve started out small and are building a fanbase with superb recordings. The music sounds familiar at times but you have to admit that The Stratford 4 do it right. It is compelling music that is easy to listen to.
