I always get the shivers any time a new Superdrag album comes out and Last Call For Vitriol is no exception. In fact this album rocks more than 90% of radio rock out there right now. Now, if you haven't heard of Superdrag, you are not the only one but that can be easily remedied and you can fit in like you have known them all along. Superdrag released their debut album "Regretfully Yours" on Elektra back in 1996 and got sadly overlooked. It was one of the greatest debut albums by any band. After a welcomed dismissal from Elektra, indie darling Arena Rock Recording Co. made them an offer and Last Call for Vitriol is the second on this label. When you throw Vitriol on you have to get ready from the start. The album kicks off with the brilliant "Baby Goes To Eleven" (in true Spinal Tap fashion) and then even picks it up a bit more on the driving "I Can't Wait". Still standing, well try on track 3 for size, "The Staggering Genius" (you will often hear me referring to Superdrag's front man John Davis as something like this). Davis can even write slower songs without injecting all sorts of emo-shit into the mix (see "Extra-Sensory" for a fine example.) They even try their hand at a country style song on "Safe & Warm" with lap steel in full effect. Superdrag IS rock n roll and their time will come. Mark my words.
