Ishq is the ambient moniker for Matt Hillier, an artist from Cornwall trying to make some original and different music. That is indeed what Orchid is, something different. If you like ambient, New Age styled music then you definitely need to keep reading. If you are someone looking for the next big rave disc, you should probably stop right here. Ishq is more in the style of Brian Eno than Paul Oakenfold. It is inspired by raj yoga, Sufism, Buddhism, and spiritually likeminded artists. There are plenty of natural effects used like birds and running water as well as plenty of Matt’s synths. There are very few tracks that even incorporate beats, the opener “Skyblue being one and the very mellow “Bhakti being the other. The tracks are very long but the purpose of Orchid is not to focus on the music but rather escape from it. It’s music for meditation. When thought of like that then Ishq is successful. Float away to another dimension.
