Hell Below / Stars Above marks the Toadies second album in 7 years... Holy Shit! Has it been that long? What the hell are the Ft. Worth hard rock band thinking? I think it's bloody amazing that they are actually still together let alone still on Interscope. For those of you who even remember the amazing Rubberneck album back in 1994 you may be saddened to find out that the Toadies have toned things down a tad, quite possibly due to major label pressure (You can stay on Interscope as long as you make it to radio). Don't worry. There's still some balls left on these boys but for those of you that have been craving another "Possum Kingdom" may have to wait a bit longer. The album opens up with "Plane Crash" which is a pretty hard driving track, probably the hardest on the album. The next track "Push The Hand" has a bit of a Southern Rock boogie to it. Todd Lewis has that radio ready voice on here and doesn't resort to the scream that came out of Rubberneck. The catchy super-fast title track complete with a shout out verse is one of my favorite tracks on here. If Hell Below doesn't make Toadies rock radio standards then the radio world is screwed up (which of course we know is already the case).
