This is the third album that Chris Hillman (Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers), Larry and Tony Rice, and Herb Pederson (Dillards, Emmylou Harris) have done together and you can hear their comfort in each others playing on Running Wild. It’s nice to see that four talented musicians such as these can go on with creating great music despite having much audience focusing on them. Although all their combined experience should target a lot of focus on them, they are content with just plugging along, playing standards as well as originals. Running Wild may not be their most focused effort but it does warrant a listen to their warm acoustic Americana country sounds. The musicianship that RRH&P possess is a real charm and a pleasure to listen to at any given time. Just give a quick listen to the Stephen Stills penned “4 + 20 with Chris Hillman taking lead vocal duties to get a feel for what Running Wild is all about. All but Tony Rice take on lead vocals at one time or another. It’s good to know that people still respect the genre enough to keep it this real. Stop by and have a coffee with these boys and I’m sure they would have a song to share with you.
