Marc Bolan and his T. Rex band rode the waves to stardom and more or less started the glam rock stage in the early 70’s. Electric Warrior was the beast that did it all. T. Rex (originally Tyrannosaurus Rex) had worked its way up from a folk-rock style all the way to the sleazy feel that was the British glam rock era. Electric Warrior really stands the test of time as well due to its carefree lyrics and the looseness in which the band pulls everything together. Take for instance the global hit “Bang a Gong (Get it On) which stands up with any of today’s mediocre radio hits. Bolan, when writing the material for Electric Warrior, was playing around and not taking himself that serious. This, in fact, is the reason that Warrior turned out so brilliant with its sexual innuendos and the gentleness about the whole thing. Marc Bolan indeed came a long way since his earlier days when he sang about all the sorcerers and dragons in early T. Rex material. I am doing this review because I just watched the movie Billy Elliot and it used this album all over especially the track “Cosmic Dancer (I was dancing when I was 12…). So I have Billy to thank for re-introducing me to this fine album.
