Tsar - Tsar
Tsar is a power-pop outfit from LA and they seem to have a flair for it. This is their debut album and for the studio sessions they brought in famed producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls). It seems to have worked because the production is stellar. The band plays a tight brand of Cheap Trick style pop that has vocal harmonies bursting out all over the place. They have a good understanding of New Wave but they don't resort to doing just that. Tsar fuses it with a brand of commercial rock to attempt to get it to the masses. They are also standing with one foot in punk as well. I don't know if it's worked in America but here in Canada they are pretty much unheard of which is a shame. Tsar plays rock that should be on the radio. It makes you want to crank it up.
