On Slippage, Slobberbone’s 4th album and second for New West Records, the band seems a little keener to clean up their sound and focus on the rock side of their country-rock sound. The band starts out with a track called “Springfield, IL, which is a road ready rocker with swaggering vocals. “Stupid Words almost has Latin feel to it with the back picking that Jess Barr chooses to use. I missed their last album but this is a big improvement on Barrel Chested. Wait until you get to the third track entitled “Write Me Off. It forges ahead faster and louder than anything they have done yet. For those people interested in rock music with a slight bit of a twang, you will be interested in “To Love Somebody, “Find The Out or the total country ballad called “Back, which could easily be an Uncle Tupelo song. Slobberbone is quite a diverse group of musicians able to dabble in country and rock and everything in between.
