Keoki - Jealousy
Keoki is the DJ who provided the soundtrack to the whole 'Club Kid' shtick in New York. He spun his first set under the moniker of 'Superstar DJ Keoki'. His previous releases had a bit of difficulty living up to that lofty title, but this disc finally shows Keoki with the goods to back up his claims. For the most part, he leaves behind the oversampling of voices and rapping, and concentrates more on the sonic landscapes that the good American DJs are known for. The title track starts off the mix with an incredible aura, and the sound just doesn't drop from there. Club-stalwart 'Pass It On' is included, as well as a techno mix of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax'. But what sets this record apart from the previous releases from Keoki, is that the beat is always present. Keoki too often fell victim to sampling to many lyrics to replace the beat, but now he lays them on top of it. In a style that doesn't vary too far from Paul Oakenfold, but still maintaing the sound he always has, Keoki has finally evolved into Superstar DJ Keoki.
