While the Tyde shares three of their members with fellow Americana artists Beachwood Sparks they do end up showing quite a few similarities to the Sparks. The Tyde is a little more raucous and upbeat next to Beachwood Sparks but the idea is the same, to bring back the sound of the country psychedelic genre of the 60’s. Don’t just think of them as a band living in the past because there is enough creativity here to warrant the step back into history. The band utilizes lap steel to their advantage as well as swirling organs and jangly guitars. The tracks are heartfelt and well crafted with their arrangements proving that The Tyde is an extremely talented band. Upon repeated listens (a must) the Tyde’s characteristic charm oozes out and Once becomes a critical favorite although never attaining the sales that it should. Kudos goes to the Tyde for one of the most creative song titles in recent history, “Silver’s Okay Michelle is a song that goes out to figure skater Michelle Kwan’s failure to bring home an Olympic gold.
