UHF came over my desk with little fanfare. I had never heard of the Portland, OR based band even though they have had two previous albums out. UHF is made up of identical twins Jeremy and Jordan Leff that were born in Chicago. They added Matt Johnson (drums) and Jeff Nelson (guitar) to complete the UHF line-up. FYI – their last album, Lottery, was actually on the CMJ music charts for an impressive 11 weeks. Their sound can only be classed as pop. UHF’s music is a swirly pleasantness that seeps into all aural orifices to give you a giddy feeling. For me, the last band to do this well was the infamous Posies. UHF do share a bit with this band but it’s very rare that UHF completely rocks out where the Posies are known to on occasion. If It Was Easy is very polished thanks to the skills of Gregg Williams who has produced such bands as the Dandy Warhols and Sheryl Crow. If you are tired of all the emotional pop coming from Britain that has somehow made a dent in the music scene, give UHF a try. They have all the style but refuse to be whiners. Thank God.
