When Dustin Lanker and Dan Schmid decided to take a break from their full-time job in Cherry Poppin Daddies, one might have thought that they would make a jazz inflected album like the Squirrel Nut Zippers or something like that. Not even close. The Visible Men is about as far from CPD as you could possibly get. Instead, Dustin hops on the piano and takes over vocal duties, reminding this reviewer of Ben Folds. In Socks Mode is a quiet pop affair with some very crafty songwriting taking place. So basically what your getting is a two piece band, duo some might say, but they have a few drummers sitting every now and then to see if your paying attention. Indeed, if you are a Ben Folds fan you should definitely check out Dustin and Dan’s The Visible Men. It’s quite an impressive pop album showing off two of Oregon’s hidden treasures.
